STUDENT PROFILE

September 2008

Nick Klabunde, 17
9th Kyu

Why did you begin martial arts training?

I began martial arts training to improve my self-defense and to give myself more confidence in my abilities.

Did you have any previous martial arts training before joining
CNC?

I trained in Tae Kwon Do for seven years until I reached 2nd dan.

What do you like the most about Ninjutsu?

I like the fact that Ninjutsu is a very versatile fighting style. It is a style that has several techniques that can be applied to different situations, and it focuses on more than just punching and kicking.

What has been the greatest benefit from your training?

The greatest benefit is that the training and camaraderie at CNC has revived my interest in martial arts, which I thought I had lost after I stopped training in Tae Kwon Do.

What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge so far would probably be finding time to work on my rank requirements, since I'm
sometimes preoccupied with schoolwork and other extracurricular activities.

What advice would you give to a new student?

I would say to step out of your comfort zone, and to communicate with the other members. Working with other members allows you to get an overall feedback on the effectiveness of your techniques and what you need to work on. At CNC it is very easy to find people who are willing to help out.
