STUDENT PROFILE

October 2007

Matt Beucler, 19
9th Kyu

Why did you begin martial arts training?

To get stronger, in better shape, and to have the ability and confidence to protect myself and others if I ever had to.

Did you have any previous martial arts training before joining
CNC?

Yeah, I did roughly 2 years training between 2 Tae Kwon Do places. About a year and a half in Moo Gong Ryu style, and about 6 months in some other one when I was a kid.

What do you like the most about Ninjutsu?

The variety of techniques and survival and stealth skills we learn. Also the fact that what we do is usable in real life situations.

What has been the greatest benefit from your training?

I've gained more confidence in my ability to defend myself now, and I've gotten a lot stronger than I was before I began my training.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Doing a lot of the Taihenjutsu (rolling and falling skills) both separately and when it's combined in a throw or other skills. And also trying to not be too easy on my Uke (training partner) when I practice techniques.

What advice would you give to a new student?

Don't get frustrated if you can't do a technique right quickly, just practice it over and over, that's the only way to master a technique. Even those that do the most perfect Zenpo Kaiten (forward roll) were sloppy at first and practiced until they perfected it. Just keep at it and soon enough you'll be a master at it.
