STUDENT PROFILE

May 2008

Adam Saddler, 23
9th Kyu

Why did you begin martial arts training?

I have always loved watching martial arts, and wanted to be a ninja ever since I was a little kid. I settled for a few other styles for a while since I didn't think there was anywhere I could learn Ninjutsu, but I was wrong -happily! I mean, who wouldn't want to be a ninja?

Did you have any previous martial arts training before joining
CNC?

Some. I studied Kaju Kimbo, a Hawaiian form of Karate, when I was in Elementary school but learned mostly punches, the horse stance, and rolls. Later in life I took about a quarter of Kenpo in school and really enjoyed it, and I was looking to take more here in Columbus when my search turned up CNC. I was then no longer interested in anything else. Ever.

What do you like the most about Ninjutsu?

I love the physical nature of our training. Everything we have learned has a logical basis that makes it effective and efficient, and most importantly, practical to use if you end up in a fight. The fact that we spar and train with contact also lets us get used to the bruises and pain you would experience in a real fight, making it less distracting if and when you end up in one.

What has been the greatest benefit from your training?

Increased strength and confidence, and also knowledge. Those three go hand-in-hand for me.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Making sure I get all the small details down to a technique. I really enjoy learning and performing all the techniques, so I get ahead of myself and miss some of them.

What advice would you give to a new student?

Don't be afraid; just join in and go for it. The group we have in class is super laid back and everyone helps everyone else out. There's no ego's in class, and everyone will answer any question you have if they know the answer.
