STUDENT PROFILE

May 2005

Greg Finley, 17
9th Kyu

Why did you begin martial arts training?

I used to watch a lot of Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies and always fought with my brother, sometimes for fun, other times out of anger, so I thought it would be fun to learn.

Did you have any previous martial arts training before joining CNC?

Yeah, I was crossed trained in multiple martial arts. Little bits of the traditional ones like Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kung Fu. I had moderate training in Israeli martial arts like Krav Maga and Hagannah. But most of my training was in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, Fillipino Kali/Arnis/Eskrima, Indonesian Silat, Cantonese Knife Fighting, and Muay Thai Kick Boxing.

What do you like the most about ninjutsu?

The wide range of techniques from stand-up to ground, even weapons and stealth tactics. It is a great way to get in shape and learn self-defense.

What has been the greatest benefit from your training?

Learning more moves and ground fighting. I had only taken a little bit of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu so this was a great experience.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Learning the Japanese names for the techniques and starting at the bottom of the "food chain." In my other martial arts I was always the more experienced student so I helped instruct others, and now I'm back at the bottom learning again.

What would you say to someone who is considering ninjutsu training?

Go for it! The moves you learn are very practical and teach you excellent control of your strength and your opponent. It will build your self-confidence in multiple areas of fighting and life.
