Why did you begin martial arts training?
As a kid I was always drawn to any movies or shows involving martial arts. As to why i chose Ninjutsu, well, I mean who has never dreamed of being a ninja? I also realize that we live in a world where anything can happen, whether it's a simple bar fight or a life or death struggle with a burglar, and I want to be prepared.
Did you have any previous martial arts training before joining CNC?
Nothing officially.
What do you like the most about Ninjutsu?
In my opinion it's by far the most practical gathering of techniques for "real life" combat. I've seen people spend years doing kata's and working on fighting in rings and dojos get destroyed in a street fight where there are no rules or referees. Ninjutsu teaches you to be creative and opportunistic. To do whatever it takes to survive, escape, and even win. And as far as I know it's the ONLY style that teaches you how to avoid a fight, by using acting skills, blending in to your surroundings, and psychological tactics. It's basically the only style that goes beyond the ring and into the complex world where fights really happen.
What has been the greatest benefit from your training?
Self confidence, increased fitness levels, and the ability to count on myself to get out of a bad situation.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Working around my schedule and making time to train on a regular basis.
What advice would you give to a new student?
Appreciate the power of the techniques you learn. Understand fully that most of them are designed specifically to seriously injure or kill an opponent. And because of that, you need to match your training to the same level. Be dedicated, be respectful to other's in training, and train constantly. |
