Now that you are preparing to test for your black belt, how has your view of Ninjutsu changed?
In all honesty, growing up I always had that mindset that ninjas were people clad in black who killed in the shadows. I've since changed this view more towards that of casual people who look unsuspecting and the least ninja-like; the ones who you least suspect to be truly trained ninja.
What has been the greatest benefit from your training?
Physically I've improved a lot over the past few years of training and my stamina has improved considerably. However, my greatest benefit I would have to say is thinking differently than I used to. Going through the same situations I'm used to, but thinking of them in new ways and considering new strategies I never did before to tackle obstacles or just everyday things.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Changing my way of thinking has definitely been one challenge, however, I believe my biggest challenge that I'm still working to conquer is my instincts when it comes to sparring someone in a stand-up match.
What advice would you give to a new student?
Just stick with it and ask the other students and instructors for help if you need it. In no time at all you'll develop a good skill level and be quite knowledgeable and surprised at how much you learn and can recall.
