Why did you begin martial arts training?
I began martial arts training for a couple of reasons. First, I
enjoy being active and working out. I thought ninjutsu would be a
terrific way to supplement my ongoing training. I also wanted to become a better and smarter fighter. This will be important for me in the future because I am planning to go into law enforcement.
Did you have any previous martial arts training before joining CNC?
I did not have any previous martial arts training before joining
CNC.
What do you like the most about ninjutsu?
I really can't pick one thing. However, I really enjoy learning
ground fighting techniques. Most fights require you to get down and
dirty. Even the best fighters get laid out or put into unfavorable
positions once in a while. Ground fighting really teaches you some
practical ways to defend yourself that most other martial arts seem to
ignore. In addition to that, learning ninjutsu teaches you how to end a fight quickly. While learning though, you also begin to understand how not to hurt a lesser skilled fighter. My goal has never been to hurt
someone, so I like how ninjutsu teaches you control.
What has been the greatest benefit from your training?
My confidence has really soared. Even though I am still new to
ninjutsu, I feel like I have become a smarter fighter. We are put in
some unnatural positions while we train (similar to real-life fighting
situations), but training has taught me to go against what might not seem wrong and do what is correct.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Understanding that learning takes time has been my greatest
challenge. When I first began training, I became frustrated rather
easily because it was tougher than I thought. But, I am starting to see the results now because I have patiently stuck with it.
What would you say to someone who is considering ninjutsu training?
I would encourage anyone who is interested to pursue it. You don't
have to be a terrific athlete or incredibly strong to learn it. You
just have to put forth the effort. Ninjutsu is fun and challenging at
the same time, and you can also meet some great people. Don't let your
insecurities stop you from learning how to protect yourself or your
loved ones. Once you do it once, you'll be hooked.
